Hyundai Tucson (NX4)

Hyundai's midsize crossover, the Tucson, is now on its fourth generation and this latest regeneration promises a more radical approach to the rapidly-growing SUV boom with a more radical styling, best-in-class space, new tech, and new performance that makes it a real standout from the rest. The question is should you want one?

With prices starting at 24.35 million Korean Won, every angle of this new generation Tucson makes a clear statement about what a Korean midsize crossover SUV can do, whether you love it or hate it. As an all-new model, the Tucson NX4 promises a bold leap ahead of its predecessors because of what lies under its radical looks but first, let's observe its radical looks. With your eyes squinted, you can easily mistake it for a first-generation Ford Edge but with the new wing-shaped front lamps to boot, you might think that radical new face is a real show-off when taken to the streets. On the rear side, it's highly reminiscent of the Mustang Mach-E's but forget about that because the new model's design is, how can I sum this up, unfriendly to the neighborhood because it kinda makes their skins crawl.

2021 Hyundai Tucson interior
The new interior can be somewhat questionable because, with the minimalist dashboard and gear changing buttons, speedo boys will be running scared but don't worry because such minimalism only comes to the more premium models because the lesser models will have buttons and dials to toy around with.

Sticking to the driver's view, the Tucson is loaded with lots of toys to fiddle with such as smartphone connectivity, a wireless charging station for your smartphones, a heated steering wheel, climate controls, and the built-in cam for when you want to go KMJS on incoming sweet potatoes on the road.

On the passenger side, this is where the new Tucson stands out because of its best-in-class space and luggage capacity, meaning people can find great ways to enjoy its impressive space. It may be a five-seater but it's amazing to handle all kinds of stuff, proving that who says you can't sit on both boards. I can talk it over if you want but with that kind of space, it's all work and all play for all. It's a win-win for Hyundai.

2021 Hyundai Tucson

The fourth-generation Tucson is powered by two choices of engines at launch; the Smartstream Diesel 2.0L engine that produces 186PS of power, 42.5kg-m of torque, and up to 14.8km/L of fuel economy while mated to an 8-speed AT and the high-performance Smartstream Gasoline 1.6L Turbo engine that produces 180PS of power, 27kg-m of torque, and up to 12.5kmpl of fuel economy while mated to a 7-speed DCT. They may sound diddy but they're sensible enough for the long haul.

In addition, a hybrid variant will follow shortly post-launch, and like the Sorento Hybrid a while back, the first-ever Tucson Hybrid will come with the first-ever Smartstream Turbo Hybrid powertrain where the turbocharged 1.6L petrol engine is bolted to a 44.4kW electric motor and a li-ion battery, while mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Engines aside, the new Tucson is livelier to drive than the last one thanks to its new Electronic Controlled Suspension and some other improvements underneath, giving it a sharper, quieter ride unlike any other. For HTRAC models, it features three additional terrain modes that will make it fit enough to spend weekends at Hannibal's, well almost.

The new Tucson is now even safer than ever because the list of safety features have been greatly expanded and revised such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Junction Turning, new Leading Vehicle Departure Alert, new Highway Driving Assist, Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control Curve, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Blind-spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Safe Exit Warning, upgraded Surround View Monitor, Blind View Monitor, Rear Occupant Alert, Lane Following Assist, upgraded Lane Keeping Assist, and Rear Cross-traffic Collision-avoidance Assist, in addition to any existing safety features offered.

While the new Tucson has a minimalist interior not suitable for all speedo boys and the more perplexing exterior that raises a lot of questions from insiders, the spacing, convenience, and revised performance is what made the fourth-generation Tucson a cut above the predecessors. Whether you like it or not, the fourth-generation Tucson is the strong suit the Korean carmaker wielded to the competition. Consider this your wake-up call, people.

Hyundai Tucson (TL) - 2019 minor change

Just like what happened to the Kia Sportage recently, its Hyundai equivalent, the Tucson, currently on its third generation, is in its 2019 model year and has received some minor changes to keep this commoner Korean compact crossover active for a few moments, whatever that means.

2019 Hyundai Tucson
2019 Hyundai Tucson interior

In this updated version of Hyundai's award-winning crossover, the Tucson received some design revisions including the new Hyundai signature grille and daytime running lamps as well as revised rear design and newly redesigned alloy wheels that will keep the Tucson fresh for a new day or so.

Although the interior remains the same, the 2019 minor change features some added convenience such as a second-row USB charger and wireless device charging. They even offer this car with a new IoT Service, which is a car-to-home service that lets you communicate with your Tucson while at home. Fancy, isn't it?

The 2019 Tucson is now armed with Hyundai's breakthrough HTRAC All-Wheel Drive system that works rather well in various conditions by taking advantage of its 4-Wheel Drive Coupling and three driving modes such as Eco, Comfort, and Sport, among many others. When you drive it normally, it's not so bad even on the summer storms but treat it rough, the handling might cost your arms more, especially when this car has MDPS.

The engine lineup's changed to as not only the 2.0L CRDi-VGT engine and the 1.6L Turbo is offered but also the brand new 1.6-litre 'U3' Smartstream D engine which promises a combined fuel economy of 16.3km/L. Easier said than done, perhaps, but anyway, there is no manual gearbox available in this minor change as the 1.6L Turbo and the Smartstream D 1.6L variants are mated with a 7-speed double clutch gearbox while the 2.0L diesel is mated exclusively with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

The 2019 Tucson minor change also comes with the cutting-edge safety tech as well courtesy of its Hyundai Smartsense suite of driver aids such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Intelligent Speed Limit Warning and High Beam Assist, among many others.

Should you buy it? The 2019 Tucson minor change starts at around 23,510,000 Korean Won (Php 1.12 million) for the petrol variant, 23,810,000 Korean Won (Php 1.131 million) for the Smartstream 1.6 D variant, and 24,300,000 Korean Won (1.1543 million pesos) for the 2.0L diesel. You can also opt in for an Ultimate Edition variant featuring special touches such as a glossy black radiator grill, metallic silver side mirror, large front disc brakes, body side color garnishes, special exhaust designs depending on the variant, and other extras.

Considering most of them familiar with the Tucson, this minor change pushes the Tucson's envelope to more ways and means that is still a value for money among crossover shoppers and although not exciting, it's still a functional crossover that gets the job done without explanations.

All New Hyundai Tucson (TL)

2016 Hyundai Tucson

Well, this is quite a surprise for us. After being introduced to the world at the Geneva Motor Show a couple of weeks ago, the brand-new, third-generation Hyundai Tucson (bearing the TL chassis codename) has now arrived to keep the medium-sized  crossover competition heating up and for this new model, it looks like it wants to show how its done.

First and foremost, let's look at the design and looks like this is like a mashup between different cars for this one because the front looks like it came from a Ford Edge while the side view looks like it came from its big brother, the Santa Fe, and the rear view looks like it came from the Jeep Cherokee. This is like a blend of Asian-American cuisine that your parents might cook up for dinner but even though it looks like it's fresh out the boat, the new Tucson is a real looker.

2016 Hyundai Tucson interior

On the inside, it looks like it came from the first-generation Genesis saloon but it was made all in the name of premium on the new Tucson. As for the comfort zone, this 5-seater still never fails to impress. It works well as a family car because not only you can take your kids at the back and go off to different places, say granny's house or a park or whatever the kids want to go, it's convenient and versatile just like any other SUVs do. You can fold down the rear seats to accommodate luggage spaces and with the max boot space of 1,503 litres, that's fit enough to carry two treasure chests you've dug from the beach and some extras.

Connectivity wise, the new Tucson is equipped with the Bluelink 2.0 telematics system which delivers turn-by-turn navigation updates while on the go. You can even use your phone as a carkey to operate the new Tucson wherever you are.

2016 Hyundai Tucson

The normal Tucson retains the e-VGT R2.0 diesel engine connected with either a 6-speed manual or automatic but there's a new version called the Tucson Fever, which is available exclusively in front-wheel drive. The Fever variant comes with the smaller e-VGT U-II 1.7L diesel engine that develops 141PS of power and 34.7kg-m of torque but here's the kicker; this engine is mated with a 7-speed double-clutch gearbox, a first for a Korean SUV. The new gearbox allows a seamless, quick shifting feel unlike any other and thanks to this gearbox, fuel economy is 15.6km/L. That sounds interesting but feels like someone might be expecting to miss out this clever stuff in case if someone lives in a Euro 2 country or in a big nation where Korean SUVs don't have diesels available for some reason.

Another kicker for the new Tucson is that it was honed at the Nurburgring to deliver performance unlike any other. Yep, this is becoming more of an enthusiast's treat and because it's been Nurburgring-trained, you can expect a more sportier suspension setup built to tackle corners in a dignified and sophisticated manner, just like most European cars do.

2016 Hyundai Tucson

The all new Tucson is never far behind with tons of safety features such as the highly clever Auto Emergency Brake, Blind Spot Detection, Electronic Stability Control, Lane Departure Warning System, Static Binding Light, and Advanced SPAS which allows this one to park hands-free.

Because it uses advanced high strength steel on the bodywork, the new Tucson is now lighter and more rigid than the previous model by about 51%.

The all new Tucson starts at 22,500,000 up to 29,200,000 Korean Won, which sounds to be reasonably priced for a crossover of this magnitude but this Nurburgring-trained Tucson looks like its ready for its next destination whether if its today, tomorrow, or the next day.

Available colors: Pure White, Platinum Silver, Pepper Grey, Ash Blue, Ruby Wine, Sepia Topaz, Phantom Black, Ara Blue, and Sedona Orange.

Hyundai New Tucson iX

Let's admit it that the Hyundai Tucson iX is the kind of car obsessed by those who are big fans of The Walking Dead TV series but while we're waiting for the fourth season in the 4th quarter of 2013, the crossover that was featured on the hit survival horror TV series has now been upgraded but how "upgraded" is this 2014 model gonna be and does it have what it takes to be featured on The Walking Dead soon? Let's find out...

2014 Hyundai Tucson iX
Here it is though...maybe Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, and the other survivors on the hit series may not gonna like this new model though because for this new look of this 2014 Tucson iX, this is much worse than I thought because in the pre-facelift model that was launched since the summer of '09, it wasn't quite a bad looking crossover when we first see and then landed on The Walking Dead TV series for three seasons and gathered a whole new bunch of fans. For this new version though...care to look at the design? It has this hexagonal-shaped grille that doesn't quite a fitting for its looks so it looks more of a "walker" rather than being a sexy utility vehicle. Get it? Bang goes the slogan here... (laughing)

Anyway, aside from the exterior cosmetic changes, what else did it changed for this minor change model? Let's see...

2014 Hyundai Tucson iX

First of all, the 2014 Tucson iX is offered only in two engine types; first the 2.0L GDi engine offered for the first time on the Tucson and the e-VGT R2.0 engine for those who prefer diesels. Anyway, the new 2.0L GDi engine provides 166PS of power output while the e-VGT R2.0 engine produces 184PS of power. While both of these engines are mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission, those entry level models wearing the R2.0 diesel engine are mated with a 6-speed manual transmission that promises combined fuel economy of 14.4km/L. That's it. We're not going to mention more about how does these engines differ because it would be a total waste of time. So, let's move on to whatever changes occured...

Like other Hyundai models, the 2014 Tucson now has FLEX STEER. The same thing you'd expect on the i30, the Santa Fe, and the Maxcruz. How does this work? Sorry, can't explain. It has three modes labeled ECO, NORMAL, and SPORT, and it was something more of a mood changing thingy at the switch of a button and three driving modes are based on driving styles whether on city roads or in an open road driving, whatever. But still, this isn't the time for explainations. Next!

2014 Hyundai Tucson iX interior
What's added on the 2014 Tucson is Hyundai's BlueLink telematics system which allows owners to open the car or start the engine via smartphone. This might be ideal if you want to get away from a horde of zombies without the hassle of key fobbing. So, anyway, like I was said. BlueLink is included and it allows owners to open doors or start the engine with the use of a smartphone. That's it. No more explainations.

Available colors for this 2014 model are; Pure White, Sleek Silver, Mystic Beige, Hyper Metallic, Titanium Grey, Atomic Orange, Remington Red, Cobalt Coast, and Phantom Black.

Price List:
뉴 투싼 iX 가솔린 2.0 GDi 2WD Modern A/T - W23,500,000
뉴 투싼 iX 가솔린 2.0 GDi 2WD Style A/T - W19,700,000
뉴 투싼 iX 디젤 R2.0 2WD Modern A/T - W25,900,000
뉴 투싼 iX 디젤 R2.0 2WD Premium A/T - W27,500,000
뉴 투싼 iX 디젤 R2.0 2WD Smart A/T - W22,600,000
뉴 투싼 iX 디젤 R2.0 2WD Smart Special A/T - W23,800,000
뉴 투싼 iX 디젤 R2.0 4WD Modern A/T - W27,700,000
뉴 투싼 iX 디젤 R2.0 4WD Premium A/T - W29,300,000
뉴 투싼 iX 디젤 R2.0 4WD Smart A/T - W24,400,000
뉴 투싼 iX 디젤 R2.0 4WD Smart Special A/T - W25,600,000
뉴 투싼 iX 디젤 R2.0 2WD Smart M/T - W20,900,000
뉴 투싼 iX 디젤 R2.0 4WD Smart M/T - W22,700,000

And that's that. The new 2014 Tucson iX may have now gained an hideous looking face that looks more of a walker than being a zombie survival vehicle but with all of its added gizmos on it, this will become the most ideal crossover as preferred by The Walking Dead cast. Question is, will this new look be an acceptable one rather than the pre-facelift one as seen on the show? Find out soon...

A Hyundai Tucson iX spotted in a Green Rose episode (?)

Hyundai Tucson iX on a
Green Rose episode

Hey, is that the Hyundai Tucson iX in a Green Rose episode?

That Hyundai Tucson iX was a personal ride from SR Corporation's David Tobias (Gardo Versoza). Relax, this isn't the first time we encounter Mr. Tobias' ride on a Green Rose episode. There was a previous episode where the Hyundai Tucson iX shown barely while David Tobias' having a conversation with Edward Fuentabella (Jake Cuenca).

I never seen that thing coming...

Besides, the Pinoy version of Green Rose is almost finished. Only three episodes remaining. Previously on the April 23 episode, Gina (Alessandra De Rossi) wants to kill Edward by any means of car accident but the bastard jumped off and Gina died. On the April 24 episode, Jerome Delgado (Jericho Rosales) and his faithful bodyguard crashing through some gang hideout and geez, I love this kind of fight scene and Jerome's martial arts is getting more interested. With three episodes left, will Jerome and the gang reveal that Edward is the murderer against Chairman Tuazon? Tune in up until Friday!

There was that 1st-gen Tucson again in Green Rose! There's also that Peugeot 206 CC!

A Hyundai Tucson in a Green Rose episode

A black, 1st-generation, Hyundai Tucson CRDi appeared again on a Green Rose episode since April 14, 2011. This was first appeared since Jerome (Jericho Rosales) spent years in South Korea working for Mr. Darren Lee (guest star Albert Martinez), providing an opportunity for Jerome to return to the Philippines using Darren Lee's identity and claim back what Edward (Jake Cuenca) got from him, especially Angela (Anne Curtis).

A Peugeot 206CC in a Green Rose episode

Prior to that, there was a Peugeot 206CC appeared on that latest episode as well. Gina (Alessandra de Rossi), Edward's former right-hand woman who was a fugitive because of the corporate espionage, rode on it. Seems that the Peugeot 206CC here in the Philippines was an instant classic.

Ssangyong Korando C is a CLASSY UTILITY VEHICLE?

Last 2009, Hyundai launched the second generation Tucson, called Tucson iX, which has a concept of "Sexy Utility Vehicle", because of its sexy yet feisty exterior, plus fully loaded with the new R-diesel engine.

Later on, last Spring 2010, Kia takes on Hyundai's sexy Tucson ix with the smartest crossover, the third-generation Sportage, dubbed as Sportage R, giving the concept "Smart Inside" because of its smart innovation, smart design, smart exterior, and a smarter diesel engine. (Gosh, I just hope the new Sportage should arrive the Philippines soon! This is taking too long!)

With the Tucson iX and Sportage R battling around the Korean market, another contender steps in and it's not sexy, not smart, only Classy...

That's right, this crossover is neither sexy nor smart. It's Classy. CLASSY! I said! The Classy Utility Vehicle slated for sale this Spring is the Ssangyong Korando C. After facing several delays due to Ssangyong tries to make part of its new owner, Mahindra and Mahinda, an Indian automobile. With the prelaunching TV CF aired on some South Korean networks, needless to say that the "C" in the Korando C name really stands for "Classy", giving it a luxurious status for the owners.

Slated to be released in late February and sales start this early March, the Korando C is the new premium of the Korean crossovers. It's classy status giving it more of a touch of class.

Which would you prefer? The sexy Tucson ix? The smart Sportage R? Or the classy Korando C?

Hyundai Tucson ix (2nd Generation Tucson)

Since 2004, Hyundai replaced the Mitsubishi Pajero-based Galloper with the Tucson crossover compact SUV to meet the demands for car enthusiasts. Five years later, the Tucson is finally received its much-awaited full model change that other car enthusiasts think that this is the ix-onic concept car, as seen on the Geneva Motor Show, finally went into production.

To wrap it up, the "ix" moniker on it looks very sexy to the Korean car enthusiasts. Just how sexy is the Tucson ix? Here are some reasons why this is a sexy crossover; the front view is somewhat an i30 and a Genesis Coupe mixed it up, a side view is a widened Nissan Skyline Crossover to give it a commanding silhouette, and the rear side that is so aggressive, that car enthusiasts will feel the intense aura inside the Tucson ix.

While sexy on the outside, the interior of the ix is sophisticated. Just one man could think that the ix's interior is somewhat mistaken for the Genesis Coupe thanks to its familiar dashboard, instrumental panel, optitron meters, climate control, audio system, and a seating for five passengers. Best of all, the seats can be folded for luggage situations.

For the audience impact that other people would never forget, the Tucson ix has the host of commanding features that no other crossovers want other people to know, like the Vehicle Dynamic Control, Downhill Brake Control, innovative Hill-Start Assist system, Control, Emergency Stop Signal, Panoramic Sunroof, and Safety Rear-View Mirror. There are two available engines to choose from; a 2.0-litre R diesel engine (found on Kia's Sorento R) producing a powerhouse of 184ps at the fuel economy of over 15.4km/L and a 2.0-litre Theta II petrol engine capable of releasing the power of 166ps at the fuel economy of over 11.7km/L.

IT IS VERY GOOD.

The Tucson ix can be Korea's biggest bombshell of the century. Look out men, because this chick has fully locked and loaded with features so hot, you might end yourselves having a date with this new Korean crossover utility vehicle. The Hyundai Tucson ix can be a formidable foe of Toyota's RAV4 and Vanguard or even Nissan's Murano and Skyline Crossover. The results can be flattering for everyone.
