Tsai Ing-wen named as Taiwan's new leader


For the first time in Taiwanese presidential history, a female president is taking reign in the country of Taiwan as Tsai Ing-wen, leader of the Democratic Progressive Party, emerged as the winner of the Taiwanese elections, defeating Nationalist Party candidate Eric Chu.

By winning the election, Tsai became the first female leader of Taiwan and the Democratic Progressive Party will return to power after an eight-year opposition.

As of 2030 hours Taiwan time, Tsai had over 6.58 million votes garneted , while Chu had 3.61 million.
