Forza Motorsport 5: Why I lost the fight against the C7 Corvette

It is with regret that with the addition of the all new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray on Forza Motorsport 5 via The Bondurant Car Pack, my road to vengeance ended in failure. It seems most Forza Faithfuls are too strong enough to plead Turn 10 to bring the C7 Corvette to Forza 5 and looks like it's over for me. Looks like our Japanese players will really get upset by the time they saw this, right? He he he... That's it then...Justice for Punkish Gothic? I can forget about it until my issue has resolve itself.

Anyway, there's a good way Forza Faithfuls should be thankful for the arrival of the new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Stingray on Forza Motorsport 5 via The Bondurant Car Pack because what we have here is a showcase of a true technological masterpiece that combines performance with technology. Although quite a big departure from the previous six generations, the new Corvette C7 wants to be a capable fighter to take on against Europe's finest.

c7 (2) c7 (3)

I'm thinking more of a one-sided fistfights, Mardi Gras style, except this isn't Mardi Gras and I'm not in a middle of a fistfight. This is Forza 5 and I'm here to get to know about the latest-generation Corvette Stingray so what is it?

c7 (8)

c7 (9)

Premiered at the 2013 North American International Auto Show, the seventh-generation Chevrolet Corvette sportscar resurrected the legendary Stingray moniker for the first time since 1963. With an all new aerodynamic design and aluminum bodywork, the C7 Corvette is powered by a brand new 6.2L LT1 V8 engine developing 455HP of power output and 460lb-ft of torque. It is the first American car to be fitted with a 7-speed manual gearbox with Active Rev Match.

The Z51 Performance Package includes a dry-sump oil system, Electronic LSD, bigger front brakes, slotted rotors with black calipers, specific gear ratios, shocks springs and stabilizer bars, an optional Magnetic Ride Control and Performance Traction Management.

c7 (4)

c7 (5)

I have never driven an American car like this that doesn't really feel like an American car of yesteryears and for the folks of General Motors, they've really pulled it off completely. They've provided a world-class sportscar that not only looks good, it drives like it was in a middle of a one-sided fistfight in Mardi Gras. That's what I'm thinking about! One-sided fistfights, Mardi Gras-style! How amazing was that?

c7 (7)

c7 (6)

For my quick analysis about the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray on Forza 5; the provocative design of the exterior and the handcrafted interior really appealed the Visuals while the muscle car-esque sound of the new 6.2L LT1 V8 direct-injected engine performed well at the Vocals. As for Dance...well, I have one trick up on my sleeves.

You may remember one episode on Top Gear USA when Tanner Foust heads to Detroit to see if the C7 Corvette is better with or without traction control. In the end, old-school driving outsmarted the car's Performance Traction Management by a margin. Now, all I have to do the same thing on the Top Gear Test Track. The Stingray in Cyber Gray Metallic has its TCS/STM ON and the other Stingray in Torch Red has its TCS/STM OFF.

Ready set go!

The Performance Traction Management really pushed the C7 Corvette to a rocket start while the other with PTM OFF still on a messy wheelspin start. That's a no-brainer though. As for the corners, the PTM really corrects how the C7 Corvette corners but because this car now comes with electric power steering, it feels like it's not communicating with me everytime I turn the wheel. Same thing applies to the C7 Corvette with PTM OFF but its dynamic behavior will make things a lot messy in the corners when taken recklessly.

After a lap round the Top Gear Track, the results are in. A C7 Corvette with PTM ON lapped at 1:23.168 while a C7 Corvette with PTM OFF lapped in 1:22.992.

c7 (10)

Hey! It feels like I'm feeling like Tanner Foust perhaps the main reason the Forza Motorsport x Tanner Foust partnership could theorize the reason the C7 Corvette showed up on FM5 but who cares about it? The C7 Corvette is the kind of Corvette that already has the guts to take on the world. Even though it's armed with technology, it's the skill that can outsmart its technology lurking behind America's finest.

Try it!

A Million Ways To Die In The West

When in 2012, Seth MacFarlane, the mastermind behind our favorite cartoon comedies aired on FOX such as Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show, used all of his Peter Griffin know-hows to create a movie called Ted. Yes, it's the one that we can think of it as Stewie and his teddy bear Rupert...30 years later. Now, Seth MacFarlane's back and once again, further inspirations for some cutaway gags for next season's Family Guy would be necessary to make this offbeat western movie that tells us one question...Just how the wild west was wrong?

A Million Ways To Die In The West

Nothing as you expect to be in this offbeat wild west comedy movie made by the mastermind that brought you your favorite cartoon comedies as well as the movie about a foul-mouthed teddy bear two years ago. A Million Ways To Die In The West is all about bravery in all the wrong barrels while still delivers some potty-mouthed crude humor in true Seth MacFarlane fashion, something that you would expect from a certain Family Guy cutaway gag anytime soon.

Seth plays as a farmer named Albert. When Albert ran away from a gunfight, his girlfriend dumped him for another man. Suddenly, a mysterious and beautiful woman (played by Charlize Theron) approaches, Albert's life has changed forever and they fell in love. However, when a notorious criminal (played by Liam Neeson), who happens to be her husband, arrives unexpectedly and seeking vengeance, can Albert brave enough for the challenge or get killed on the wild west for his cowardliness?

Even though it's set on a Wild West age of America, A Million Ways To Die In The West is just plain offbeat for a comedy movie and in true Seth MacFarlane fashion, there's always random bits of gags you might spot especially when Albert's having a chat with the Indians. Is there something from the film that is worth a cutaway gag for Family Guy? I think so but even though it's all about crude humor on how the west was wrong, it seems a bit too corny for me, you know what I mean? It has the jokes, it has the gags, and it has Family Guy inspiration from it but I'm afraid I'm going to be as brain-dead as a...well, brain-dead horse for its catastrophic corniness.

Despite being too corny, A Million Ways To Die In The West is not a bad movie if you're in a mood to flex your funny bones with your mates.

My score? A 2.8 out of 5.

Forza Motorsport 5: UNLEARN GERMAN

The Lexus GS350 F-Sport is all about being a head turner to anyone passes by with its provocative looks and its athletic stance. One taste and it makes anyone who falls for it to unlearn German faster than you can say "Germanium". Get it?

According to an AMCI Testing Certified, the F-Sport Lexus GS can out-handle the BMW 5-Series M-Sport by a "just" margin with its ESC OFF, proving that this Japanese-made premium saloon can show the Germans who's the boss. Doesn't tell about anything but the Lexus GS really has the dance moves to outperform the German Folk Dance in a blink of an eye...well, as a theory.

gs (2)

I drove this car back in Forza 4 two years ago and I said I like this more than the old Toyota Aristos that its rival game had. No one cares about it but whatever, I had fun driving with it over and over until I call it quits. Now, with steep competition pouring in, feels like the Lexus GS is as outdated as an out-to-date HD TV because there are some new rivals approaching to outshine this Japanese premium saloon, especially those that came from its family tree. Cars like the new 2014 CTS and the 2014 IS, they're all made in one purpose in outshine the Lexus GS. I'm sorry but why would the 2013 Lexus GS F-Sport return to Forza 5 via The Top Gear Car Pack?

gs (3)

No matter though but still, if there's one thing you want to think that you should have attended a Nihonggo class instead of the German class, this is the car to have. I have driven this one before so feel free to enjoy driving one in FM5 if you wish. It maybe less desirable for JDM enthusiasts but for casual gamers, it's not half bad. The only downside is its 4WD layout which seems fine but for handling hard, that's a big issue. Luckily though, you can convert it to rear-wheel drive and let the car do the talking while handling through the corners.

Meanwhile in Australia: A British pre-school show is not safe from budget cuts

A British pre-school show called Peppa Pig remains one of the world's beloved cartoon shows targeted for pre-school toddlers. In Australia, it was one of the most popular shows aired on the ABC. It was mostly viewed on iView, played more than 2 million times monthly, and among the top five most popular children's shows aired on ABC2.

There are reports stating that the Australian Federal Government is axing $43.5 million from the ABC over four years and looks like our favorite cute little piggy, sourced from the UK, may not be able to air on Australian televisions if budget cuts are imminent.

Those 1% cuts to the ABC of its total budget mean that the Australian TV network has been forced to take some saving measures by cutting some of it programs and the boss, Mr. Mark Scott, remains uncertain about the future of airing Peppa Pig on Australian TV. Despite uncertain futures, Mr. Scott said that their contract still remains in place as of now but only temporary. He said that the ABC have contracts to air Peppa Pig but the service the Australian network provides depends on the funding.

Produced in the UK, Peppa Pig is an award-winning program which highlights on Peppa Pig, her friends, and her family, in her endless adventures. It has been proven to be a worldwide hit since its 2004 airing. 2014 marks "10 years of muddy puddles" of the show. It spawned numerous Peppa Pig merchandises from toys, clothes, accessories, and many others.

Land Cruiser 70 set for Japan comeback?!

Nicknamed "Machito" by the Venezuelans, the Land Cruiser 70 has been the off-road workhorse of the Land Cruiser history. In Japan, Toyota sold the LC70 alongside its bigger brothers until it was discontinued in 2004. Even though it was discontinued in 2004, it's still in production as of now. You can see one of those in Middle East nations because of its off-road capability.

Word from the mouth is that the LC70 is set to return to the Japanese market this year as the cheaper alternative to the much larger Land Cruiser 200 and its little brother, the Land Cruiser Prado.

Wait a minute, Toyota already have some of the finest off-roaders in their lineup from the flagship Land Cruiser 200, the Prado 150, and the retro-inspired FJ Cruiser.

Hindustan Ambassador production ends

Hindustan Ambassador

Remember one episode of Top Gear when Richard Hammond is in search for the world's best taxi in a form of a race? The winner emerged as the Indian Taxi in the form of the Hindustan Ambassador.

Started out in life as a Morris Oxford, the Ambassador was once the only passenger car made in India but it became the symbol of social status and has been used to chauffeur high-ranking officials for many decades.

Sadly, there was a report stating that production of the Hindustan Ambassador has come to a bitter climax because of poor sales. Last year, the Ambassador sold about 2,200 units.

It's difficult to see the end of the world's best taxi according to Top Gear after over 60 years of production.

Caterham reveals Japan-exclusive Special Edition Seven

Caterham Special Edition Seven

Despite the news that Caterham is going to be up for sale, there's still more life out of the maker of lightweight track toys as they've launched a Japan-exclusive special edition made in tribute of their Formula One driver, Kamui Kobayashi. Called the Special Edition Seven, this Japan-only Caterham has bits of inspiration from Mr. Kamui Kobayashi himself and uses the Seven 250 (in Race Pack configuration) as its foundation.

It's a single-seater Caterham that has Kamui's name written in the seat and it has a dark green color reminiscent of the Caterham F1 team.

The Special Edition Seven is powered by a 1.6L Ford Sigma Engine developing 125PS of power. 0-100kph in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 196kph. It comes with a limited slip differential and a 6-speed manual gearbox.

It's limited to 10 units, each costing over 6 million Japanese Yen.

Porsche 911 Targa (991)

2015 Porsche 911 Targa

We may already have an open-top 911 but why would Porsche made another one? Oh yeah, this 911 in question is the 911 Targa and even though it's based on the current 991-spec 911, the new model is all about being a throwback machine rather than being a sportscar destined to be parked somewhere in the South of France.

For a quick history lesson, Porsche made a 911 Targa since 1967 for the US market because of the threat that America would ban cabrios due to health and safety concerns but as of now, the USA never actually banned cabrios because they're everywhere but in my mind, they're a rare sight to see someone driving with their roof down.

The last 911 Targa, which is based on the previous-generation 997, used the sliding roof mechanism which is more of a dismay for Targa purists and what you get in result? Just a normal 997 hardtop coupe with the big sunroof opened. Doesn't say anything but it doesn't resemble of the classic Targa masterpiece. For the new 991 Targa, the true meaning of a targa-top car is back and sticking true to its roots, it uses electric motors to lift the whole rear window and automatically fold the solid roof panels to the boot. Quite a modern twist they've done but being a throwback car with a modern twist, the new 991 Targa is quite a suitor indeed but for a word of advice; that rear screen serves as an airbrake and you can't close or open the complexing roof while on the go. Need to keep a note while you're in there.

Like the normal 991, the 991 Targa comes with two engine types such as the 3.4L boxer-6 engine for the base model which develops 345HP and the 3.8L flat-six engine for the 4S model which develops over 395HP of power output. They can be mated with either a 7-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed doppelkupplungsgetriebe operated via paddle shifters. Be warned though because, like the normal 991, it comes with  electric power steering, it doesn't respond more than what previous 911s do, like what Richard Hammond demonstrated last year just before he and Jeremy Clarkson got banned from entering French roads ever again.

Even though it weighs 40kg more than the 991 Cabriolet, the extra bulk on the 991 Targa doesn't put you off to enjoy its grand touring fulfillment if you're into some sightseeing from one open road to another. That doesn't stop you from taking it on a nice relaxing trip to Saint-Tropez. It's all in the quiet curves with this one do but the pricing is not as quiet as it seems because while the 991 Cabriolet 4 costs 110,290 Euros, the Targa 4 model costs 109,338 Euros so it's less than a grand cheaper than the Cabriolet equivalent. So, that one or the 991 Cabriolet? Make your choice...

X-MEN: Days of Future Past

The X-MEN movies gave us a modernized take on our favorite mutants straight from the pages of the Marvel comic books where it was based. From the first one, X2, The Last Stand, Origins: Wolverine, the First Class film where we discover the secret origins of Magneto and Professor X, and last year's The Wolverine where, of course, Wolverine travels to Japan in his mission to become mortal. Now, the ultimate X-MEN movie, titled X-MEN: Days of Future Past, has arrived and it was aimed to be the X-MEN movie to end all X-MEN movies because why? All of our favorite characters come full force to take on a robot uprising.

In a dystopian future, the Sentinel robots enslaved the United States and they're set to unleash armageddon. The X-MEN have failed to stop the uprising while the few surviving mutants were imprisoned at the Mutant Internment camps. However for the mutants, all hope is not lost because to stop this Sentinel uprising, they must travel back to the past and put a stop to it to save their future.

This movie truly re-writes history with its hard-hitting storyline, which is truly based on the pages of the original Days of Future Past issues by John Byrne and Chris Claremont, and when you look at it, you can really salivate it on how awesome the battle scenes are, how powerful the storyline is, and how star-studded the appearance of their favorite X-MEN heroes and villains. From heroes such as Wolverine, Mystique, Colossus, and Cyclops to villains such as Magneto, Nimrod, and Master Mold, the huge roster of X-MEN mutants from past to present are all here to give it all they've got in this ultimate X-MEN storyline to date.

Thrilling, it can be, and spectacular, it can be, Days of Future Past will surely promise to deliver moviegoers the biggest thrill ride they've ever promised and I swear that if you watched it all the way to the end of the film, there's no guarantee that you will never forget this moment forever and ever.

My rating will be a good 4 out of 5 so go see one now and experience the ultimate superhero flick of the year.
