Need For Speed (2014 film)

For some unknown reasons, one of the best-selling EA franchises in history, the Need For Speed franchise, has spawned a movie version like any other video game franchises in the world rarely spawn theatrical films for numerous reasons but for those who are looking to watch one of the latest action films in time before your annual spring break draws near, it could be it because the Need For Speed movie is all about speed and revenge. Is it something that really turned you on?

Need For Speed

Although the film has nothing to do with all the Need For Speed video games from the past to present, it's worth enjoyable to watch because in this movie, Aaron Paul, familiar by many as Jesse Pinkman from the concluded Breaking Bad TV series, is the perfect actor to play the role in the movie. Aaron Paul played the role of Tobey Marshall, a man who runs a family business, an auto shop to be precise, and street races with his pals on his free time until tragedy struck to him. He was framed for the crime who didn't commit and two years later...he was freed from prison and plans revenge against whoever framed him. He takes on the "De Leon" race, similar from The Run from 2011's NFS The Run video game, which is a cross-country high-stakes street race that spans across the United States. Armed with the highly-customized Ford Mustang to the teeth, Toeby will risk everything to take down anyone who stands in his way and win the De Leon race to save his family business.

This NFS movie combines elements from car movies of different eras, making it a unique high-octane movie you would never disappoint, especially for the NFS fans for all ages. To add it in a mix, the NFS movie features a wide range of unfamiliar and familiar stars including Dominic Cooper, who played the role of a bad guy named Dino Brewster, Imogen Poots as Julia Bonet, Scott Mescudi, Ramon Rodriguez, Rami Malek, and many others. But it's not just about that because while the Need For Speed franchise is all about cars, IT'S ALL ABOUT CARS. Period. Aside from the Ford Mustang being the hero car of the film, the one Tobey drives in the De Leon race, it features a million-dollar feast of hyper exotics ranging from the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento (which is Dino's vehicle of choice), the Saleen S7, the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, the Koenigsegg Agera R, the Spanish-made GTA Spano, the hybrid-engine wielding McLaren P1, and so much more. What boggles me that because those ultra-expensive supercars were featured, the producers told that no actual supercars, like the P1 or the Agera or the Veyron or any other million-dollar exotics featured in the film, were harmed during the making of the film. That's a mystery...because they used rebodied versions rather than real ones because it would be too pricey to wreck the real ones while filming the film.

If I had a comment; how come this movie doesn't have Porsches? Sure, EA may have the exclusivity for Porsches but why did they didn't showed up on the Need For Speed movie? Well, EA, do you have something to say? You may have exclusivity for Porsches but how come they never get the star treatment for the Need For Speed movie? It's their time to shine and not that whole Mustang and Koenigsegg and all of those million-dollar exotic nonsense because over the past few years, Porsches always been the representative to the Need For Speed world and how come, after all those years of being an EA-exclusive, they never showed up in a film based on one of the fastest-selling video game franchises from EA? If the Need For Speed film isn't all about Porsches, who cares?

For an added surprise in the NFS movie, there was a 2015 Ford Mustang making an easter egg in the film. If you spotted this "easter egg" car in the Need For Speed movie, what do you think? Well, since the 2015 Ford Mustang is officially an EA-exclusive ever since it made its first appearance on Need For Speed Rivals last year on a free update, it stays to be an EA-exclusive. Sorry...

So, with all of that, I give a rating of a good-ish 3.5 out of 5. Still, it's worth enjoyable to see one though so don't worry about this film not showing too much Porsches like what most NFS games do because it's so cool...you may want to see this film over and over and over...

Geekdom's Guide to Omelette du Fromage

Omelette du fromage

Now, if you were kids and if you remember Dexter's Lab, you may have noticed one of your memorable episodes from one of your memorable shows you've watched during your childhood. It's the one where Dexter kept saying the omelette du fromage word. This French word made him get away with anything except in the end of the episode where Computer rejected Dexter's password and then self-destructed his lab. I know you guys watched this episode and you often want to say it all day long.

Omelette du fromage  is French for cheese omelette and how can you make your own omelette du fromage? Something that you can whistle this to the girls near you for romantic reasons.

All you need is 3 large eggs (Grade A recommended), 2 slices of cheese (any cheese), and 2 tablespoons of cooking oil. It takes two minutes to cook the cheese omelet and two minutes to prepare.

First, add oil to the skillet over high heat and heat it until small hairline ripples appear. Then, break the eggs into tall glass or frappe cup and whisk to blend for a minute. While moving the skillet in a round motion, pour the eggs and keep moving until the outside edges have firmly cooked so you can flip it and cook for 30 seconds. Overlap 2 slices of cheese in the center of the omelet in a diamond shape, fold the omelet into half, and slide it onto the plate.

After you finished making your own omelette du fromage, you now have the most romantic meal you'd ever had. So romantic, you may want to whisper it to the girls or for the heck of it...you're going to say "omelette du fromage" over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over....

Making your own Omelette du Fromage the geekdom way...

- Ever since Disney took over LucasFilm and with Star Wars Rebels coming soon on Disney XD, it's a bit of a shame for Star Wars fans that the Clone Wars TV series has been pulled the plug from Cartoon Network after five seasons. However, there's some good news because after much rummaging, the sixth (and the unaired) season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars is now available for Netflix subscribers.

With The Clone Wars included on Netflix, not only it features five seasons of the hit TV show (especially the one episode where David Tennant did a guest voice role on), but the lost sixth season is included. Season 6 features 13 never-before-seen episodes. So, did the episodes made you impressed or disappointed? Did Cartoon Network make a mistake by shelving the show? Could Season 6 of Clone Wars have saved it?

The sixth season of Star Wars The Clone Wars is available only for Netflix subscribers.

Forza Motorsport 5: The Lotus Exige S V6

This is the Lotus Exige S, or to be accurate, the Lotus Exige S with the V6 engine on it. Launched in the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Exige S balances big power and lightweight, making it the driver's car that delivers a threat against the big boys in track days.

It's a tricky one when Lotus made this car from scratch and the reason why it's longer than the old Exige and it now weighs a ton is because of its supercharged Toyota 3.5L V6 engine derived from the Evora S. But still, with the added power and weighs less than Europe's finest sports cars, the Exige S is truly born for the track and usable for the road. Here in Forza 5, when it comes to drive the Exige S, it takes a lot of science experiments to examine how the Exige S stacks up. Think of it like stuffing things up to the microwave...

When I take this round at the Top Gear Track, it set a lap time of about 1:24.272 and that's not bad for a track-day car with big power in the middle. Although the added weight was not a hindrance for the V6 Exige, Lotus truly knows how to balance it out to create the perfect driver's car; a driver-focused car that is more powerful and lighter, a car that is more track-focused and usable for the road and this car sure does that.

The Skyline Eau Rouge concept and the upcoming Skyline 2.0T

Two months ago at the 2014 North American International Auto Show, Nissan's luxury brand, Infiniti, showcased a bewildering concept saloon car based on last year's Q50 (better known to you and I as the V37 Skyline) and based on how it looks, this concept car maybe more of Japan's M3 killer, something to give high-performance European saloon a run for their money.

2014 Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge Concept

The Eau Rouge Concept, named after a corner from Spa-Francorchamps, is the result of what happens when you give the Skyline the spirit of a Formula One racer and it comes with a bespoke carbon fiber aerodynamics, making it lower and wider. Infiniti's Johan de Nysschen said that if they made this car, he would expect that this hot Q50/Skyline to produce over 500HP of power and 600lb/ft of torque.

It showed up but no one knows what kind of engine that powers it until at the recent 2014 Geneva Motor Show, the Skyline Eau Rouge comes with an uprooted version of the 3.8L V6 engine sourced from the GT-R. Thanks to the GT-R engine, it develops over 560HP of power and 442lb-ft of torque while connected to a seven-speed double clutch gearbox.

I tell you what, if that hot Q50 or Skyline went into production in the near future, I bet that the Eau Rouge is definitely Japan's answer to the latest BMW M3 F80 saloon but because this is a concept, best to dream on.

2014 Nissan Skyline

Aside from the Skyline Eau Rouge concept getting a turbo engine, it looks like they did previewed an upcoming, entry-level version of the Infiniti Q50 or Skyline V37, only this time it comes with a 2.0L Turbo engine which, in theory, it could replace the outgoing model's 2.5 V6 engine. The old V36 Skyline's 2.5L V6 engine produces 222HP of power output but for this 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder engine coming to a Q50 or Skyline near you, it produces a lesser 208HP of power output. A Skyline with a Mercedes-Benz sourced turbo engine maybe have less power than the outgoing 2.5L V6 engine but because this is turbo, I believe that it can make up for its personal shortcomings. Some say, the 2.0L turbo variant of the Infiniti Q50 or Nissan Skyline V37 will be rolling out worldwide this fall.

As of now, the latest Nissan Skyline (launched in November 2013, on sale last February 2014) is powered by a 3.5L V6 engine connected to an electric motor and a Li-ion battery. In other words, it's a hybrid but it's connected to a 7-speed DCT gearbox that delivers maximum torque and a more sportier drive. The one thing I find it confusing is why the new Skyline wears Infiniti badges all over but still called it a Skyline for anonymous reasons. Don't ask but it's all Nissan's idea.

Japan's 3.11 tragedy and three years later...

Let's all take a moment of silence to remember one of the most tragic moments ever to hit The Land of The Rising Sun...

You see, in the 11th of March, 2011, at the Tohoku Region of Japan, a magnitude-9 earthquake triggered a nightmarish tsunami that was more than 10 meters high. Authorities said as of now, over 18,500 people were either dead of unaccounted for while almost 3,000 people died while evacuated from their homes. Not only that, it triggered a meltdown at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant, causing radiation fears not only in Japan but the rest of the world.

As of last month, over a quarter of a million Japanese people were still living in their temporary shelters while construction for new housing on higher ground is lagging behind schedule. About 3% have been completed so far.

It takes over four decades to decommission the Fukushima plant and the cleanup takes a lot of time.

Report: http://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/english/news/20140311_06.html

When that disaster happened, it seems that Japan has just went to their knees, considering the parts shortage, contamination concerns, power shortages, and most of the bad things happened in Japan. Moments later, it stood up again thanks to the generous support from all over the world.

For those from the Northeastern Japan, we are thinking about you and we wish you all the very best you can. That is my message to them and with one year passed, it seems that the Tohoku region still hasn't get away from their nightmares of last year's but I'm sure they'll find a way.

As a fan of all things Japanese, I surely wish for them to stood up again. The sun is rising for them.

Six Nations 2014 - Round 4

England vs. Wales, two bitter rival teams, one match. And here in Twickenham, it's a total catastrophe for our friends at the Welsh Rugby Union as with the score of 29 to 18, England Rugby wins the match. This is definitely one of the worst moments to expect for our Welsh heroes in the game of rugby. Such tries from Danny Care and Luther Burrell as well as Owen Farrell's winning techniques really made England Rugby on the rush for the Triple Crown.

Here are the video highlights:

So, a humiliating loss for the WRU in a grudge match against England but before this grudge match occured, there was Ireland's IRFU defeated Italy's FIR at the score of 46 to 7...

...and France's FFR defeated Scotland at the score of 17 to 19. That's Scotland 17, France 19.

So, that concludes Round 4 of the RBS Six Nations 2014. Based on the results, it looks like England and France are in the lead with three wins each.

Don't miss the finale of the RBS Six Nations 2014! Here are the schedules for the final game of the season;

Nissan GT-R NISMO

Since the return of the GT-R in 2007 and having been on the block for about seven years with numerous updates, the premiere flagship supercar of Nissan is still dominating the supercar segment and thanks to its overwhelming performance, the GT-R sure knows how to take down numerous sportscars, even those that are five times the price. After seven years of extensive R&D as well as testing on the Nurburgring and involvement in motorsports such as FIA GT3 and Super GT, it seems that the king of Japanese sportscars now has a new heir and here it is; seven years of hard work pays off...

2015 Nissan GT-R NISMO

This is the brand new 2015 Nissan GT-R NISMO, the ultimate GT-R ever made and this car isn't more of a show-off because with this GT-R, it means big business for NISMO, the motorsports and tuning arm of Nissan. Let me tell you a bit of a story in the making of the GT-R NISMO. You see, most of the people working for Nissan spent several years investigating its rival supercars; especially European ones. Think of it like...what national security does to us, eavesdropping our phone calls for no reason. After years of research and development, those elite engineers poured in every rival supercars' database and do some science on the GT-R and since the announcement of a hotter and more powerful GT-R, they continue their quest for dig deeper to the supercar science until eventually...

2015 Nissan GT-R NISMO

Like putting every stuff in the microwave before explosions, this is the result of how Nissan do it to create the ultimate masterpiece catered for the elite aficionados. These guys sure know how to save this for last and they sure did. The NISMO GT-R is a GT-R built from scratch and to succeed where the normal GT-R left off in the pursuit of speed and perfection. It takes an inception to perfect its conception of a true driver's car and the GT-R NISMO takes it seriously by delivering the best it has to offer for a car that is track-focused and barely street legal. You can use it on the road but some drivers may think you are corrupted with speed and they refuse to challenge you, unless someone is brave enough to rise to the challenge.

It still carries the same 3.8L twin-turbo V6 engine as the original one but because this is a NISMO-tuned version, it now develops 600PS of power output, about 10PS less than the new Lamborghini Huracan's V10 engine and 5PS less than the hardcore Ferrari 458 Speciale but don't underestimate that gap because since the GT-R NISMO is powered by every nooks and crannies NISMO throw at it, and if you engage the tricky Launch Control sequence, you can kiss goodbye to both the 458 Speciale or the Huracan with that one.

Handling-wise, the NISMO GT-R is the definite equivalent of what happens when you electrocute a twirler from a drum majorette with some electrical equipment. It might be coordinated and graceful but it can be somewhat cack-handed and rubbish if you fail to tame to its peak. If you have a bad case of stiff neck or osteoporosis, be warned that once you try to handle it as violent as a Brainiac, you're going to pay a massive bill from the chiropractic or worse, your health insurance. I'm just saying that because even though the 4WD system keeps this car as stable as a fat man in an earthquake, you can get too risky to tame it with all that vibrations shaking you down on a hot lap.

Here's more, while this car tries to stay true to its hardcore stance, the GT-R NISMO went round the Nurburgring in 7:08.679 and that's even faster than any other European sportscars that are pricier than this.

2015 Nissan GT-R NISMO interior

Even though it's track-focused and barely street legal, the GT-R NISMO is a well-sorted luxury car that you can use it to go to the shops. It still comes with a lot of convenience you can try if you're having a break on a track-day duty and it even comes with a special telematics system exclusively for the GT-R NISMO. It's called the NissanConnect NISMO Plus and if you're in Suzuka, Tsukuba, Motegi, or Fuji, you can use it to track lap times as well as your driving data on the track. It even has GPS Visualiser which in a future Gran Turismo 6 update, it allows you to import Controller Area Network (CAN), used to regulate automobile systems, and GPS coordinate data from a real life car into Gran Turismo 6, and visualise the data as a replay in the game. Perhaps no wonder it's a clear sign that the Nissan GT-R NISMO might make it to GT6 very soon. Hoping but not expecting.

So, what's my take on the NISMO GT-R? Well, as the folks from Nissan agree, especially the fans, enthusiasts, and aficionados alike, the GT-R had gone through numerous revisions and racked numerous awards. Thanks to the GT-R, Nissan was prompted to begin development of their next-generation platform but my high hopes for the ultimate GT-R as you see now can't be overlook on the road and on the track. With the introductory pricing of just 15,015,000 Japanese Yen, that is a lot for a car but if you have the cash fit for a mogul and if you have one, fire up and see if the flagship of Nissan still got what it takes to be the perfect Godzilla! Trust me on this, the new NISMO GT-R is the one to love.

2012 Ford Taurus SHO

One of America's favorite "sleeper" cars, the Taurus SHO, returned on the sixth-generation model. Although it may have the attitude of a true sleeper car but the SHO is all about combining its sporty character with luxury amenities, making it more of a marathon runner in an executive suit. Power comes from the award-winning 3.5L EcoBoost V6 turbo engine that delivers the power output of a V8 car with a fuel economy of a midsize sedan.

2011 Land Rover Defender 110

Conquering off-road conditions since 1983, the Defender is the hallmark of Land Rover's commitment for off-road ready vehicles that are truly "Made in United Kingdom". Even though it hasn't change for almost three decades, the Defender still has the same "British Bulldog" spirit.

1992 Dodge Viper RT/10

The Viper project began in 1989 when the crew behind the car tested their Viper prototype on the roads and then debuted in 1991 with two prototypes served as pace cars for the Indy 500. When it went on sale in 1992 as the RT/10 Roadster, the Viper story begins here. The engine that powers it was an 8.0L V10 engine, the biggest for a production car, producing 400HP of power and connected to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
