- Philippine Vice President Leni Robredo calls for end to extrajudicial killings, warned yesterday of what she described as the growing culture of fear in the country. Robredo made the appeal after five persons were reported to have been killed in Malabon by motorcycle-riding armed men while another man suspected of being a drug pusher was killed in Quezon City in what the victim's sister said was a case of mistake identity.

- Senator Koko Pimentel, presumptive Senate president, expects President Rodrigo Duterte to push the government to federalism in his first state of the nation address this coming Monday. Pimentel said he is also hoping for Duterte to make income tax reform a priority.

- Two days after the Supreme Court ordered her release, former president and Paranaque representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is still detained. The Supreme Court explained the release order would not be immediately implemented, stressing administrative procedures must be followed.

- In the penultimate third day of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, while Indiana Governor Mike Pence accepted his vice presidential nomination, Senator Ted Cruz made headlines about not endorsing Donald Trump and urge people to "vote by their conscience".

- Following the failed coup attempt, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that a three-month state of emergency in Turkey will be implemented. Erdogan said the measure is needed to remove the threat and pledged to rid the cause of the plot from the military.

- French lawmakers have voted to extend the nation's state of emergency rule for six months, following last week's Nice attack that killed 130 people. The lower and upper houses of France's National Assembly approved the extension on Wednesday.

- Legendary Pictures acquired rights for a live-action Pokemon film with filming commencing next year. It will be heavily inspired from the Detective Pikachu 3DS game that was launched digitally since the first quarter of this year, which explains a lot.

- The 20th anniversary birthday present from Good Smile Company for Cardcaptor Sakura has been uncovered. Two different versions of the special Good Smile Company Cardcaptor Sakura 20th anniversary figure. The base is now available to order starting at 12,963 Yen plus tax and deliveries start this June while the range-topper Stars Bless You version is now open for booking for 23,148 Yen plus tax and deliveries star this June. A must have for Cardcaptor Sakura fans (except for myself).
